We’d like to believe that StarCraft was important to Geoff. Former StarCraft 2 pro turned commentator Geoff ‘iNcontrol’ Robinson suddenly passed away at the age of 33 on July 21 and his cause of death has been revealed on his Twitter account. It’s a small gesture, and it can’t come close to capturing how much he meant to us, but we hope it will show some fraction of how we feel. Beginning on October 22, 2019, Geoff’s Announcer Pack, Portrait, and some additional items we’re creating in his honor-will be granted to every player on log-in, for free, forever. (Understatement.) The StarCraft team wanted to do something permanent to commemorate him in-game. Here at Blizzard, there are a lot of Geoff “iNcontroL” Robinson fans. With immense grief, we announce Geoff’s unexpected passing due to sudden illness Saturday.

He shoutcasted major tournaments, demonstrating deep game knowledge, passion, and a preternatural ability to find the hilarity in any situation. As a player, he found success as early as 2007, when he won the national WCG Championship, catapulting him into a long and storied competitive career. But he was also the kind of one-in-a-million human being who genuinely cared about every single person he met-no matter who they were, or how unlikely it was that he would see them again.įew people have had more of an impact on StarCraft than Geoff. He was ambitious and motivated, always looking for opportunities to learn and improve himself. Geoff was a competitor with unparalleled work ethic. If you actually do watch these series, you will realize that the thing that allows them to be good with low APM is having good decision making from experience and confidence. We played Brood War in high school & college and did years of SC2/BW events together. You can work on both of these factors to improve at sc2, but improving your APM is a lot more straightforward than improving the efficiency.
